I had to do it, just had to. How else would I fill the void left by The Girl on the Train? So I just had to go to the library, in the 30 minutes that M was in school and wasn’t crying. There was a time when I used to be a speed reader, polish off books in a couple of days, but now there’s hardly enough time to read and I call four books a haul 🙂
The True and Outstanding Adventures of the Hunt Sisters by Elisabeth Robinson. I really needed a lighthearted, yet poignant comedy after the gloom of The girl on the Train. It is (obviously) a story of two sisters and I’m always drawn to any book or movie which has two sisters in it 🙂 It is also in the form of letters (love love love!) so I think I’m going to like this book. We’ll see.
Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult is a thriller. Jenna Metcalf, the protagonist, is searching for her mother who has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. She cannot, however, remember details of the night that her mother disappeared. She relentlessly searches for her mother online and pores over her mother, Alice’s journals to uncover the truth and finds some unlikely allies on the way. Sounds interesting!
The Zookeeper’s Wife is the one I’m really excited about. What is it about books with zoos? I always seem to enjoy them, no matter what the genre is. Life of Pi, Water for Elephants (that’s technically a circus but animals, nonetheless) and now this. This is a true story set in Warsaw during the German occupation. This is about Jan and Antonina Zabinski who saved more than 300 people from the Nazis by hiding them in their animal cages.
This is probably going to be one of those books whose characters I will stalk after I finish reading 🙂
I loved ‘ The Other Boleyn Girl’ and I like Tudor history in general so I picked up ‘The White Queen’. This is the quintessential rags-to-royalty story of Elizabeth Woodville who rises from obscurity to become the Queen of England.
And here’s the bonus – two great books for the little one –
I’ve started reading ‘The Zookeeper’s Wife’ and ‘The Hunt sisters’. Reviews coming soon!
