I came across the Bout of Books read-a-thon on Twitter recently. And although it is incredibly difficult to multi-task parenting a super-active toddler and practically everything else, I signed up. Only because they said it was ‘low-pressure’ and I like low pressure. Since I joined a day late, I’m going to post my progress directly for Day 2, because the only book I read on Day One was this – my toddler, M’s book – Silly Sally, which is quite interesting, really.
On Day 2, I read one chapter of ‘The Last Mughal’ by William Dalrymple. I’ve been trying to finish this book forever, but when you have to cram your entire adult life in the two hours that your baby naps, one chapter is good progress, don’t you think?
Bout of Books also has some fantastic bookish challenges. Today’s is called ‘Rainbows’ and is hosted by Ranty Runt of a Reader. I tried it but turns out a lot of books I own are written by authors with last names starting either with ‘G’ or ‘R’. What an interesting revelation!
So I took a shot at yesterday’s challenge. I’m a day late but I’ll do it anyway because I liked the questions. It’s called Would you Rather and it was hosted by Writing my Own Fairy Tale. So, here we go!
1. Would you rather Lend books to someone who dog-ears pages or to someone who reads with cheesy Cheetos fingers?
Me : Cheesy Cheetos fingers are gross. Sorry. but dog eared pages are better in comparison. But come to think of it, I wouldn’t lend my books to anyone, so the question is moot.
2. Would you rather Be able to meet one character of your choice or meet one author of your choice?
Me: It will be nice to meet my favorite author but I’ll be too nervous or busy fangirling to ask him anything. So, one character of my choice it is. Actually two characters, Henry DeTamble and Clare from ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’. Meeting them would be a logistical problem, given that Henry will probably be in another time, but it would be terrific if that actually happened.
3. Would you rather Have to choose one of your favorite characters to die in their book or have to pick one of your favorite couples to break up in their book?
Me : Breaking up. At least they will be alive to take the story forward.
4.Would you rather Never be allowed in a book store again or never be allowed in a library again?
Me : ugh, both are equally painful but I would be okay with not being allowed in a bookstore, but I want to keep my library! It’s free and it’s awesome, enough said.
5. Would you rather Be required to read Twilight once a year for the rest of your life or The Scarlet Letter once a year for the rest of your life?
Me : I haven’t read either one (don’t judge!) but if I do read Twilight, I’ll keep picturing that expressionless Kristin Stewart so, I choose The Scarlet Letter.
That was really fun. Four more days to go and so much to read. I hope I can keep up. Look forward to my shot at some more fun bookish challenges in the days to come.
